parenthood…….slip, sliding away
Parenting is a difficult task, whether you are parenting human children, or the furry variety. I am told that parents must constantly monitor their children; assessing their needs, their wants, providing care, love and affection. Our human parents are pretty good with us. We have lots of warm kitty beds, and a surplus of kitty toys; good health care, proper grooming and nutrition. However, occasionally things are overlooked, and once in a while things get out-of-hand; such was the case today.
My little brother Dillon has a lot of specific feeding routines because of his food allergies and his delicate kitten stomach. Our human parents mix his raw food special for each meal, and he eats in a separate room from Shedden and I. He gets vitamin supplements added to his food, plus a probiotic, fish oil and barley powder.
Today the human mother dispensed our evening meal and got a little side-tracked. So Dillon, being the untrained, undisciplined toddler, decided to get on the kitchen counter and see what was in the big brown bottle. I told him it wasn’t a good idea, but he didn’t listen, and once he knocked it on the floor and the shiny little balls of fish oil capsules came rolling out, I too was intrigued by their smell and the taste. So we may have eaten, one, two, five or six and smeared a few on the kitchen tile before the human mother returned to find us. “I can’t help it!! It was Dillon’s idea!!!”
Mom says, things will come easy to us for the next 24 hours……..and the litter box will be “Slip sliding away……”
