PennyCat’s Tuna Pot Pie Recipe

All this talk of albacore tuna on the Whisker Caper story has got me thinking…hmmmmm Tuna Pot Pie!!!  So I thought it was about time I shared my Great Grandmother Hisscilla VanPuss’s recipe for Tuna Pot Pie.

Turn your oven on to 350 degrees  to preheat.  Make sure that there are no milk rings in there.   Hmm, wonder how that happened, little brothers?

Then melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. (Careful not to catch tail on fire!)  Add some chopped onions, like maybe a small one.  (Wow, I can’t see, why are my eyes watering?)  Cook the silly onions until they are tender, then add  two 6 ounce cans of drained tuna, (save the juice for a tuna cocktail baby!) and one 10 ounce bag of frozen vegetables, (Watch out the peas rolllll….stupid peas!)  Stir that up and let the vegetables get heated through, maybe five to ten minutes.  Then mix in one 10.75 ounce can of cream of mushroom soup (I use cream of chicken, a purrrsonal favorite, don’t get head stuck in can!!)   I cannot get the can opener to work, so I have to ask a human, dumb can openers are not cat friendly.

Pour the mixture into a 9 inch pie dish (Oh rats, slopped some on the wall, must lick it off, too bad.”)  Sprinkle some grated sharp cheddar cheese on top, maybe a half of a cup. (Ohhhh, I love cheese, can never have enough cheese). 

Then unroll a package of those crescent rolls.  Lay each cresent roll on top of the tuna mixture with the point facing inward, overlapping slightly (AHHHH, dough sticks to fur, dough sticks to fur!!!)    Bake the whole dish until the crescent rolls are golden, 11 to 13 minutes (Not until the smoke detector goes off!)

Hey, let the pie sit for five or ten minutes before cutting and serving otherwise you burn your kitty lips!!  (yes, I  speak from experience)

There standing before her in a group of cats with guns, in the cool night air of Kittyville Bay,  was Purcy the beloved Prime Minister of Kittyville, Puss felt her blood run cold. None of this made any sense to her, how could Purcy be involved?  The voices of the cats were distant enough that it was hard to make out their conversation,  but Puss suspected what was in the briefcase and had sinking feeling of what was about to go down.  She knew that once the money exchanged paws they would move in and Kittyville would soon know that their adored leader was up to his collar in black market albacore tuna.  Purcy’s briefcase was unlocked and Puss watched as Tony removed a stack of bills and inspected them,  flipping  them through his paws.  He counted the remaining stacks and nodded his head.  The money was returned to the case, it was locked and passed to Tony, his whiskers twitched and a smile crossed his face.

The New Bed

Yep, it’s true we are growing like mad…….getting bigger, more demanding and needing a whole lot more space.  Our sister, “Miss Mean and Hissy” doesn’t take kindly to sharing her bed space……….so we got a new bed!

 

It is a Select Comfort like Dad’s only smaller and ours has Memory Foam.  Ohhhhhh this Memory Foam stuff is great.  It snuggles right around our cute little kitten bodies and keeps us so cuddled!!  Here in this picture we are putting the air in the mattress.  Dad said we really weren’t much help with this step as we really wanted to get inside the space and play!

 

In this picture the air mattress part is all full and now the memory foam top goes on and then the quilted top goes next.

 

Here the “Mattress Inspector” gives it a final test making sure it is up to “Kitty Code”

Three of the cats that were dressed in black remained with Tony and his group.  Puss counted a total of five visible guns, and wondered how many were concealed?  Two of the cats in were large in stature, the third was shorter with a wider stocky build.  Puss heard movement behind her, and as she turned she saw a figure emerge from the black car that had parked in the shadows by the warehouse.  The figure moved toward the group slowly, carrying what appeared to be a briefcase in one paw.  This cat was also dressed in black and as he became more visible in the lights on the dock, Puss could not contain the gasp at her recognition of the cat.  She thought to herself, “How can this possibly be?”

Got Milk…….Rings?

 

Dear Aunt Nikki:

We are healthy, happy kittens and we love to play, and we greatly appreciate your contributions to our Milk Ring Collection…….However, Mom has said we must “Cut Back” on the collection at this time due to limited space.

 

 

We of course feel this is totally inappropriate…………

But, purrrhaps you could send kitty snacks instead (just a thought)

Heard it through the grapevine……..

We live in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York.  The summer here has been very moist and quite cool, up until this past week when all the sudden the 90 degree days with 97% humidity have hit making it impossible for a fur covered kitty to be comfortable.

I have taken to the basement to lay on the cool damp floor unless the humans are home and the “kitty conditioner” is running with the “kitty fan” on high, then I am laying right in front of it baby!!!

So while I am laying around trying to keep myself cool, I thought I would share a little information on our area……Yeah, Yeah, PennyCat the Tour Guide…….

 

 

This picture was taken on a recent trip to visit relatives who live on one of the Finger Lakes called “Keuka’.   Keuka Lake is the only lake in the United States to flow both north and south.  It is distinctively shaped like a Y and is easily recognizable on any map.  Keuka Lake is home to some of the oldest vineyards and most historic wineries in the Finger Lakes.

 

One of America’s oldest wine-and-grape regions, the Finger Lakes has garnered a global reputation for its Rieslings during the last decade, and this grape is now the widely grown vinifera variety in west-central New York.

 

 

 

The HM is a lover of wine, and one of her favorite wineries is Hazlitt Winery on Seneca Lake (another finger).  Her favorite wines are of course “Red Cat” and “White Cat”  which are both produced by Hazlitt.  HMMMM…….where is the “Orange Cat” people?

Tony walked with a limp that was clearly recognizable.  He was a big Savannah cat, with shifty golden eyes.  His shoulders were broad and his whiskers were long and white.   Puss watched him as he made his way down the gangway slowly.  He was accompanied by two large Bengals carrying handguns,and a small Scottish Fold which followed behind.

At the end of the gangway the group paused and Tony glanced at his watch.  It was now 1:15 and most of the tuna had been secured in the five large trucks.  The Scottish Fold handed out envelopes to several of the cats that were dressed in black and they in turn, quickly herded the foreign cats into a group and led them back up the gangway and into the ships interior.

Goodbear’s back in town…..the party is over!

Well, Aunt Goodbear made it back from her California trip and hopefully Codybear and Pic had the party remnants cleaned up and Spree had the lampshade off her head (let me tell you, that Cat can party!)

Here in the North a hot flash has made the temperature under fur unbearable and the HF finally got one “kitty conditioner” in the window, so I will be hanging out close to the dining room wall!!!

We had company from North Carolina visiting and they didn’t seem to mind this humidity and heat at all, but then they aren’t covered with heavy orange fur either.
