“There is a freighter called the Catmandoo loaded with White Albacore Tuna arriving at Kittyville Docks tonight at midnight. I have information that this Albacore is black market and is being bought by a wealthy and powerful cat. This cat is planning to resell this tuna at a high price and make a hefty profit. The Fangs have gotten word of this deal and have decided to make it their own.” Dan spoke in a low and even voice. “Where is someone going to put all this tuna?” Puss questioned. Dan replied, “Who ever has put this deal together, must have their paws in a lot of pies if they can pull all the necessary strings they need to hide a shipload of tuna.” Puss pondered, “I’m interested in knowing how you obtained your information Dan, and why you decided to share it with me and not go to the police directly?” Dan looked away and was silent for a moment then replied cautiously, “I can’t tell you how I know this plan Puss, but I owe you a lot; and I am sorry and want to make it right.”

As she rounded the turn to the bridge she saw Dan sitting, skipping stones across the water. His tail flicked from side to side with each stone tossed. He had gained weight since his father’s death, and age showed in his stature. His fur was tussled; his collar askew, and the missing piece of his left ear was evident from her angle. He heard her approaching, turned and stood. He smiled his crooked smile and his whiskers tilted upward. Puss smiled back and gently reached for his paw. Their eyes met; hers with anticipation and his with sadness. ”I’ve missed you” he murmured. She could not reply, she simply had no words. Silence took hold of the moment and time stood still.
A splash in the water startled them both back to reality and Dan said, “Puss, we really need to talk about us.” she pulled her paw away and replied, “That is not, why I am here; you said you have information?” “Yes, I do; but promise me that we will find the time to talk about us.” Dan said softly. Puss looked away, as tears filled her eyes. She took a moment to regain her composure then turn back toward him and said, “Please don’t make this harder than it already is, what information do you have?”
Life is full of colors………..
May 27, 2009

Yes, life is full of colors and some days are full of warm yellow, orange (my favorite) and red. You feel warm and fuzzy on those days.
Other days are softer colors, green, lavender and pastels. They leave you feeling peaceful and serene.
But, sometimes you get a day of blue with gray. For whatever reason you are left feeling down.
Here in our area we are suffering from the economic situation as much of the country is. There have been many lay-offs and people are left wondering how they will pay their bills, keep their homes and feed their kids. Life is full of unexpected hills and valleys and I find encouragement in knowing that I believe in a God who will meet my needs. How fortunate I am to have this belief. Recently I learned of a area resident who couldn’t cope with the loss of his job and decided it was not worth the fight. He ended his life leaving behind kids and a wife. How terrible for them to have to live on with the loss of someone they loved, and how tragic that he didn’t know my loving and caring God.

Weeks later Puss confronted Dan, and it was evident by his response that Dan and Loretta Loosetail were more than just friends rubbing up next to each other. He couldn’t give an explanation, or even look Puss in the face; he just kept saying he was sorry. After an hour of his attempts to make the truth go away, she hissed at him and walked away with tears stinging her eyes.
Puss was now at the entrance of Sandbox Park; she turned left and headed down the path to the foot bridge. Her heart was racing and her stomach twisted as she considered how much time had passed since she last saw Dan. He had left the Kittyville Police force a year ago after a drug bust had gone bad. Two cops had been shot, and rumors had spread that someone had leaked the raid. Several cats in the warehouse were old acquaintances of Dan’s. No hard evidence was ever uncovered about the leak but Dan’s days on the force were over.
Land of the Free – Because of the Brave

TAPS
Gone the sun
From the lake…
From the hills…
From the sky.
All is well…
Safely rest
God is nigh.
Fading light….
Dims the sight
And a star….
Gems the sky….
Gleaming bright
From afar….
Drawing nigh
Falls the night.

The relationship grew between Puss and Dan, but most cats were unaware of it. It didn’t take long however, for Max, Puss’s Dad, to step in and give his opinion. “Dan was trouble, a wild cat, from the wrong side of the box. Puss would do herself no favors getting tangled up with such a renegade tom.” Puss loved her Dad, and his opinion was important. She told her father that they were nothing more than close friends, although in her heart she felt different; at least until four months later.
It was a rainy cold November night. Puss and Scratch had been out on a homicide and it was late and they were wet and cold. Scratch stopped at “Lola’s Lickens” the local coffee shop, so Puss could grab a couple cups of Joe and two salmon twist donuts. Puss was wrapped in her trench coat with her hood pulled tight over her head. She saw them in the back booth, when she walked in. It was clearly Dan, with Loretta Loosetail; with her shiny red lipstick, thick black eyeliner and tight rhinestone collar. Puss knew Loretta’s story and as she watched, Loretta pulled Dan’s face close to hers with her black gloved paw and kissed him long and hard on the lips.

Three months after Dan and Puss joined Kittyville’s finest, Dan’s father committed suicide. Dan had not been close to his Dad, but it hit him very hard. His loss came spewing out in anger and rage. He drank, punched walls, drove fast and screamed in the night. Puss stuck close to his side, trying to help him work through the emotional storm. She spent endless hours on the phone, sitting in his car; or at his apartment. They grew close and it was during one late night walk in the park that they found themselves under the foot bridge talking. Dan was holding her paw, and he leaned over and gently kissed her. Puss had been touched; but also confused. She cared for Dan deeply, but they were so very different.

After graduation from West Paw Academy Puss and Dan were assigned to the Kittyville Police force. Puss was put on Homicide and Dan was assigned to the Narcotics Squad. Puss liked the Homicide Division, and her partner Scratch Malone was a seven year veteran and enjoyed showing her the ropes. Dan, on the other paw, had difficulties right away. The Narc’s didn’t take kindly to him; knowing his past, and his father’s substance abuse problems. His partners didn’t appreciate that a lot of the cats they were busting were former acquaintances of Dan. Word quickly spread on the street that Litterpan Dan was now a cop, and life became increasingly difficult for Dan. His friends on the outside no longer trusted him, and his co-workers on the inside doubted his loyalties.
