How many days til Spring?

February 28, 2009

p2240015According to the calendar there are 21 days until spring!  This week we had a few days of warmer weather, which started to melt the ice on the river and caused the HF to drag the golf clubs to the backyard to “smack” a few balls in the mud!

The HM opened the front door to our house a few times and let me bask in the warmth of the sun through the storm door……..but alas the stupid weather people say a storm is heading our way for tomorrow!!  Just when a cat starts to get excited about spring, and the fur starts to fall, they say something about freezing rain, snow and sleet.

In Tucson they are playing golf in shorts and sunscreen…..but here, well take a lookp2240013

Now does that look like Spring to you!!

Oh, the sadness……..

February 26, 2009

pc300021With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week.  Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote “The Hokey Pokey”, died peacefully at age 93.  The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin.  They put his left leg in and then the trouble began!

p21500241Ok, so Lavenderbay tagged us to answer fifteen honest details about me.  This is not hard at all, because I just love to talk about myself…..however, the HM informed me that they probably wanted to know something about her too (why, I don’t know, she is completely boring!)  So, let’s start with ME:

1.  I lie about my weight!  Hey, so does Mom! (come to think of it, everyone in this house does!)

2. I am named after the state of Pennsylvania and I came from Wilkes Barre.

3. I hate it when the HM whistles!

4.  I am the first orange long-haired cat that my human parents have ever had (also the best, prettiest and most sweet!)

Ok, now we will give you a few boring points on the HM:

5.  She has been known to dress like a tree, sit in a tree and shoot things with a pointed stick (I’ll never understand humans)

6.  She knows how to yodel (oh PLEEZE don’t ask her to demonstrate!)

7.  She can recite Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven” by heart (now who really cares, and don’t ask her to do that either)

8.  She has seven siblings and she is the oldest.

9.  Her and Goodbear have been known to do crossword puzzles over the phone into the wee hours of the night and talk for hours!

10. She once hit three deer at once with her car ( I hear the other four got away, but needed extended counseling)

11. She sang in a church choir for six years (but can’t carry a tune in a bucket now!)

12. She wanted to be an artist when she grew up (she’s still growing!)

13. The name on her driver’s license is not the name on her passport, or the name on her bank account (something is really fishy here?)

14. She loves to mow the lawn and her favorite color is John Deere green (except when choosing cats!)

15. She is a very happy person who is blessed with a lot of great things (including me!)

Select Comfort Sunday

February 22, 2009

pc300002Yeah Baby……I’m a big fan of the Select Comfort bed.   Lidsay Wagner’s got nothin on me.  I mean, ok, so she may have been bionic at one point.

I have been sleeping in Select Comfort Sleep Number bed since last year and let me tell you there is no better way to relax the old kitty bones.  After a long day of licking and flicking, eating and other kitty functions (I’ll skip the details) I curl up and set my bed to number “45″.   The sleep number system is purrrsonal, set exactly to your prefurrred firmness and support.  Your ideal “sleep number”  accounts for your height (12.5 inches), your body shape (purrrfectly round), your weight (hmm, well never mind) and your sleep position (in long “kitty loaf” diagonally across the HM’s side).

Unlike other old mattresses, there are no metal or wire coils poking at you all night long.  This bed has “air” chambers.  Yes, you can float on this thing, if you need to (paddles are sold separately).

If you haven’t checked it out, give it a try………tell them PennyCat sent ya!pc300001

Whisker Wisdom by PennyCat

February 20, 2009

p2150023I have more right whiskers than left, does that mean I am left side dominant?  Ahhh, who knows?

Actually my whiskers are in horizontal rows on my whisker pad.  I use them to help feel my way around.  I can detect the slightest change in air current and that helps me determine where things are located in a room. (This can be a little difficult when you have forced hot air heating) I can use my whiskers for measuring……my whiskers are suppose to be the approximate width of my body (uh, ok, well maybe not in my case) and the tips are sensitive to pressure so I can judge the width of an opening to see if I will fit (incidentally, I will NOT fit into a large oatmeal can, don’t ask me how I know).

You can also judge my mood by my whiskers.  If they are pulled back, I am angry, when they are relaxed and forward I am happy.  If the right side is forward and left side is back I have had WAY to much catnip! My whiskers should never be cut, and they do fall off naturally like hair and toe nails.

Some folklore says freely shed cats whiskers are good luck and may grant wishes  to you when you put them in or under your pillow  Maybe I’ll try to help Mom and Dad by making that sacrifice or maybe Aunt Goodbear could use a wish or two.

Sit by a river.

A river does not just happen; it has a beginning and and end. Its story is written in rich earth, in ice, and in
water-carved stone, and its story as the lifeblood of the land is filled with colour, music and thunder.

Tired on Tuesday

February 18, 2009

p2160037Ever have one of those days when you just want to pull the covers over your head and stay in bed?  Well, that’s the kind of day it’s been.  The HM and HF slept in this morning……I’m not sure it was planned, and I tried to wake them up several times, although the HM just doesn’t get the hint when I stand on her face???

Any way,  I need to just bury myself in and take a good long snooze today.  Nothing much going on here, no gofers destroying furniture, no teddy bears plotting…………Just me and my trusty plush select comfort bed……so leave me alone!

Happy Presidents Day!!

February 16, 2009

p2150024Good Morning People…….How are you?  Ok, today we are going to test how many of you are savy in the knowledge of our leaders.  So put on your thinking caps and let’s get started.

1. Who was the only president to be unanimously elected?

2. Who was the first president to live in the White house?

3. Who was the first president to be inaugurated in Washington D.C.?

4. What president never lived in the white house?

5. Who was the first president to die by assassination?

6. Who was the first president to ride in an automobile?

7. Who was the first president to earn a Ph.D.?

8. Which president donated his salary to charity?

9. Which president gave the first televised speech?

10. Which president once worked as a fashion model?

Answers: George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, William McKinley, Woodrow Wilson, Herbert Hoover, Harry S. Truman, Gerald Ford

Now don’t feel bad, I personally can’t see Gerald Ford as a fashion model either!  He was also a Park Ranger, at one time……Ha!  I can see him running after Yogi and his picnic basket!!
